Greetings from the RS

Thank you to Erin White, Gina Nelson and Jennifer Carpenter for working together to pull off a fun Polocrosse Rally on April 19. Everyone had a great day!

Thank you, to our RIC, Kris Gerald for making a C-2 Dressage Specialty happen for three of our members pursuing the Dressage Specialty. We facilitated this event to help provide the opportunity for our members to test for a specialty that is difficult for individual clubs to host for a single member. We anticipate 4-5 candidates, but in the end, had 3 dedicated members successfully achieve their C-2 Dressage certification, with a National Examiner. They are better prepared for what to expect at the C-3 National Test.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you at our Show Jump and Dressage Rallies in the next few weeks. I know it's a very busy time for our kids with school coming to a fast end, riding opportunities ramping up, and our biggest qualifying rallies around the corner. It's often hard to juggle all of our different opportunities and priorities - just keep in mind, life is a marathon, not a sprint - pace yourselves and enjoy the ride! Happy Mother's Day to our wonderful Moms and Grandmothers! So many outstanding Moms have made all of this possible for our kids to enjoy!  I thank you all for your hard work and dedication to this fantastic organization.

HM Corner Rally Reminders
by Brian Smith

I know I've mentioned this before (last month maybe even) but I am just back from another region where the competitors racked up many points over two easy-to-catch situations. These two issues may have been more than half the points awarded!

Fourteen out of fifteen teams got 2 points each for trash cans not emptied at the end of the day. So in effect, the one team that did empty their trash can got two positive points!

The other issue was stall/tack room/feed room door closing/latching. HMRB 11i states that unless a person is in the stall, the stall door is to be shut and latched (horse or no horse). If no one is in the stable area, the tack room door must be latched closed. 13d states that the feed room must be latched closed unless a member in *IN* the feed room. Mucking stalls with the feed room door open is not acceptable. Door issues are safety issues and safety issues are given more points. Five points is the typical amount. Imagine the team that left their feed room door open 5 times over the course of the rally.

And don't forget to give your pony a hug.

How to Register for a VRPC Rally
by Erin White

Have you registered for a rally yet this year?  If so, you know how quick and easy it is!  If not, here’s a few helpful tips to get you started.

Our Region’s website is full of useful information, including our Rally Registration.  Start by going to http://www.vrponyclub.org.  You’ll find all the rallies and lots of other events listed under the Calendar tab.  Click through the calendar until you find the event for which you would like to register.  Right now, Dressage Rally is “open” and accepting registrations.

Once you click on the event, you’ll see more information about the event, including the link to the invitation and other important bits of info.  You can also see how many people have already registered, and you can click to see if your friends have signed up yet!  On that page, there’s a button for “Register.”

After clicking to register, you’ll be asked for your e-mail address.  It is very important that you enter the email that has been specifically assigned to the person being registered.  Every VRPC member has their own e-mail…don’t forget to use it and check it often!  By using the correct e-mail, all your information will be entered automatically by the system when you start your registration process.

From here, you just click and fill!  Answer the questions about Division, Horse/Pony Name, and more!  It’s really easy.  At the end of the fill-in section, the system will create an invoice for you.  You can either pay online, send the invoice on to your club to pay, or mail a check to the VRPC Treasurer.  And just like that, you’re DONE with the online registration!!  All that’s left is to scan and email (or snail mail) your Coggins, Chaperone Form, etc. (see the event invitation for all the forms needed).

Please be sure to carefully note the closing dates, as the system will close the online registration and you won’t be able to access it!

As always, I’m happy to answer questions and help you in any way I can!  Shoot me an e-mail at etmbwhite@earthlink.net or call 757-334-1442 anytime.

Rally On!!
